IKEA hack FLÅDIS BASKET (punch needle)
I couldn’t wait to try it home myself. I found that like anything, the more I practiced the better I got at needle punching. I got myself some chunky wool and scrim or hessian. I started a little punch needle design using scrimhttps://www.homefocus.ie/linen-scrim-fabric and an embroidery hoop.
I finished my punch needle with the embroidery hoop design. I had a FLÅDIS Ikea basket sitting on the fireplace. Looking at it I thought I would try to punch it. So, I loaded my punch needle with wool and I was so excited to see it was working. It’s like drawing/colouring in with wool .
I drew my designs onto the basket using a black marker. I loved choosing different designs and adding pom poms. These baskets are perfect for storage or plants.
For these baskets, I did scallops at the bottom. I used a small saucer to get perfect circle shapes. And I wrote the word GROW at the top of my basket. If you are not confident enough to write freehand you can download fonts online and print hem out and trace them to the basket.
I was really surprised how well this basket punching was turning out. I found myself looking forward to the evenings punching my baskets !!!
When I finished I wanted to try out more designs. So I got more baskets and did a rainbow cloud and sunshine design and my favorite” Simone” with the crazy curly hair and pom pom necklace. These are a real colorful show stopper in my home. I love them.
Now I run workshops showing how to punch baskets. This is something you have to try. Make something beautiful for your home.
